Vertical
Date: February 2025
For the Vertical challenge organized by BrickPirate, particpants had to build a tall and narrow structure on a 8x8 base and with at least 50 bricks in height. See this thread for rules (in French) and participating entries.
Here below are my two entries for this challenge.
Spindle
While searching for something tall and narrow, I thought about the Spindle “sculpture” that I already built at minifig-scale.
I had to make it at a smaller scale to fit in the 8x8 limit, and stack more cars to reach the minimal height. This time the colors and style of the cars are not linked to the original one.
Here is a picture with the gauge to show that it fits in the 8X8 constraints (and that it is higher than the 10 panels which are 5-brick-high each)
It is not very stable, on the pictures the tower is not always perfectly vertical.
The cars that are not aligned with a straight angle with the base have beveled headlights so they fit in the limits:
Longcat is long
Here is my second idea of something tall and narrow... Longcat 😁.
Those who were on internet around 2005-2010 must have seen that often, as it was one of the popular memes.

At first I thought about making the full cat, but the rear paws were more complicated, and the tail would not fit in the 8x8 limit... So I thought about making it coming out of something. As on several images it is shown coming out of clouds, I made a base making a reference to that:
It fits well in the 8x8 limits, re-using the gauge from the previous entry, with 12 panels instead of 10:
Details of the head:
The back is not closed, I prefered to make a “cut”: if I had to finish the back with rounded parts, it would be either to big for 8x8 limit, or looking too thin if within the constraints:
