Running Away
Date: June 2025
For the challenge La fuite (“Running Away”) organized by BrickPirate, particpants had to build a land vehicle modified for a post-apocalyptic world set in 2034. This vehicle would be used by survivors trying to reach a far away zone, said to have been unaffected by the disaster. See this thread for rules (in French) and participating entries.
This time I had an idea quite early, so I had time to work on my vehicle... but it seems that this does not work well for me: my entry ended last in the votes, unlike some of my last-minute entries which sometimes gathered more votes than what I expected.
Ils ont voulu nourrir le monde... (“They wanted to feed the world...”)
2033. In order to end the world hunger, and especially to get subventions, some big industrial groups started to procude extremely genetically modified vegetables.
In the months following the first harvests, scientists discovered that some substances were coming out of these new plants.
These travel through air and have an impact on a part of the population: those who (almost) do not eat vegetables.
This is how, in a few weeks, most of the teenagers were transformed to zombies, hooked to meat, wandering in search of non-infected people to eat.
2034. The epidemic spreads out, the civilization has fallen. In order to avoid being changed to minced meat, the oldest ones try to get organized and take advantage of all what they can find.
A group of friends decide to leave the town, to join other survivors that gathered together to found a new civilization in the middle of nowhere.
For that journey, an old refrigerated truck from the neighboring supermarket was modified with items found nearby.
The giant vegetables are used as zombie-repellent, and can even become weapons: from the peas machine gun to the explosive corn. The cherry tomatoes can be used to block the zombies. The green beans and the lettuce are used to protect the front of the truck.
While boarding, one of the crew members was bitten. For safety, the others attached him.
It was a good idea, as while they are watching the surroundings of the vehicle, the danger could come from inside.
